Pay for performance: what it means when marketing is billed on results

July 11, 2026

Most agencies bill for effort. You pay a retainer, work happens, and whether it moved the economics of your business is somebody else’s question next quarter.

Performance billing flips the risk. The visibility and lead-generation services that drive most of your traffic are billed on what they actually deliver — clicks delivered, keywords ranked on page one, qualified calls booked. If those things do not happen, you do not pay for them.

Not everything can work this way. Your website, review system, and CRM are infrastructure: they have to exist before performance can even be measured, so they run on a flat monthly fee. Charging per-lead on infrastructure would only create incentives to push volume over quality.

The result is a structure where our incentives line up with yours. We are measured against the plan, every month — and where the performance services underperform, that is our problem to fix, not your invoice to pay.
